gen1engine swap in gen2

We are in the process of swapping a gen 1 motor into a gen2 gst. The motor is in and kinda running. The only thing gen1 is the block and cam angle sensor everything else is gen 2. We sliced the wires of the crank sensor to the cam angle sensor together. When we start the car up it runs for a second, but then fouls out, but if we unhook the mass air flow sensor it runs fine but a little rich. If anybody has any ideas how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Harley

Re: gen1engine swap in gen2

There is also a 1gina2g yahoogroup, that may be your best bet. I'm not sure I understand the problem, so I cant help. Of all the 6 bolt swaps I've done, I've never had a problem.

Yes we tried adjusting the cas. It ran better but then when we raised the rpms to 2000 it stuck there so we moved it back. I will look at all the posted urls and maybe I can figure it out. Its probably something easy that was just overlooked. I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for the help. Harley

Re: gen1engine swap in gen2

In any case you should use a timing light to set base timing with the CAS to 5 degrees. How you tell the ECU to stop interfering with base timing so you can set it depends on the year of the car.
