'01 XLT-a/c quit, warning light, overheat

Hi all,

Just found this website searching for a cause for my problem. Have an '01 explorer xlt. Sunday, we were returning from an out of state trip (maybe 150 miles) and the a/c suddenly stopped blowing cold air. It had been working perfectly up until then. A little later on the trip, the Check Gauges light came on, though all gauges read ok. Nothing else occurred on that drive. The next day, the truck was only driven a couple miles, the light came back on after a few minutes of driving, the a/c still wouldn't blow cold air. I noticed that the light would go out whenever we would make a hard turn, but come back on after a few seconds or so. Today, the same thing occurred, only the temperature shot right up nearly to the overheat line within a minute or two of the check gauges light coming on, would stay there for a few seconds and then the Check Gauges light would go out and the temperature would immediately drop back down again.

Can anyone tell me what might be causing this, and are all these things a result of the same problem??? I appreciate any feedback.

Thank you.
