Hell yes, they should be worried. Now let's hope they can price it under $30,000 :P

I'm WAY more interested in the AWD Turbo Honda Accord that's coming out (Or TSX if you're in the States/Canada)

They're making an AWD Turbo TSX? HOLY SHIT.

Come on Toyota, NOW will you bring the Celica GT-Four? And Nissan, bring the AWD Turbo Altima (Bluebird) over here from Japan

looks more like that would compete with the turbo legacy class. i bet its gonna have a little less hp if they come out with the production version.

sad enough, so far that Mazda looks the best out of the current two. if they keep the price around $20K like the SRT-4, which they won't, I'd consider getting one.

so all these rally-inspired AWD turbocharged 4 bangers for the street, is this turning out to be another fad now?

btw, how are Mazdas in terms of reliability? don't Ford own it? has it affected Mazda?

Yes Ford does own it, but they still retain a fair degree of independance, and actualy develop models that are then rebadged, or rebodied and sold as Fords. e.g. the Ford Lazer/(Escort in the US), or the Ford Telstar, or the ford Probe/MX6. And the Yamaha V6 as used in the old Mondeo/Contour is also a developed and tuned Mazda engine.

So don't let any issues with ford get in the way of your opinion of Mazda.

They also have a lot of experiance with AWD and turbo charging, the 323/lazer has had an AWD turbo model avliable since the late 80s.
Altough they have never before built a car that could compete with the EVO and WRX, they have been building succesful works rally cars since the 70s.

An AWD turbo Mazda 6 would make an interesting addition to the model range, it sort of falls somewhere between the Legacy and WRX/Lancer in terms of size, and I imagine its performance would be somewhere between the 3 as well. It would make an excellent gap filler in the market, attacting people of who want the practicality of a Legacy, but are tempted by the performance and image of a WRX or Lancer.

That is of course assuming its real, and it see's production.
The claim that its a "twin-turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-liter four" as stated in the article does make one wonder as to its accuracy.

I wonder if the Focus (which uses Mazda's 2.3) will get a similar car. Or if they'll bring over the Focus RS.

Glad to hear it, because tomorrow I am going to test drive the Tribute, and might consider purchasing as a daily-driving family wagon. So, Mazda by itself, they're as reliable as nissan, toyota, honda, etc?

Fad? AWD Turbocharged 4 bangers have been around a lot longer than a certain FWD Turbocharged 4 banger (SRT-4).

Re: 276HP AWD Mazda, should the EVO and STI worry?

It's a bit on the big side. The Evo and STi probably won't have anything to worry about. Maybe the Legacy GT, though.

The only 2 that I'd say have to worry about it is the 350 z and the infinity v35. The evo wouldwoop that things ass especialy since the evo mr is coming out. The sti would also woop that things ass they say the sti has 300 hp stock but Razor told me it only ran 285 on the dyno so you never know.
