I would go with the maxima. My mom has a 94 Altima which has the same engine as 95+ i think and I have a 98 Max. The Altima has all sorts of problems and now the tranny is about to go. It only has 83k on it.

Re: more reliable? altima or maxima (95-99)
The Altima is a little cheaper, but the trade off is that it isn't built quite as well and it comes with a 4 cylinder engine that isn't near as reliable as the V6 in the long run.
