s-10 paint

hey, i was inderneath my s-10 today trying to fix something and i noticed paint chipping and a little rust where the body panels sort of fold in and go under. i was wondering if in order to take care of the problem, i just sand that area, put a coat of base, a coat of paint, and a top coat on or is there more to it

i dont know much about body paint so any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks
