any of you guys ever think about going carbed?
have any of you ever thought about losing the mpfi/dpfi and going the carbed route?
like a set of weber dcoe carbs, or a holley 450 cfm? seems like it would have some heavy potential!

Re: any of you guys ever think about going carbed?
One of the cars mentioned in a book I just read used sidedraft webbers, I'v messed with carborators long before I ever touched a honda, They have there place, but I personally hate working with/on them. Fuel injected is so much easyer and accurate in my oppinion on most things.

if i recall correctly they used to change hondas to carbs when they turbocharged them...of course this was a while back. It sounds like it would be a lot easier than messing wiht all that wiring and shit and just have turbo, wastegate, intercooler, bov, then carb!

Re: any of you guys ever think about going carbed?
well for my current D motor i would love to play with it and carb it i mean DPI does suck ass so bad carbs would be nicer esp some sidedraft webbers *drools*
But for the advanced MPFI motors i would rather run that then carb it. Once i have my B16 in i will toy with a set of webbers and my old D should be fun |

Re: any of you guys ever think about going carbed?
Some chemist named Bisi in old Honda Tuning or Sport Compact (I can't remember) described how he uses carbs. Was running insane speeds in the 1/4 with SOHC, beefy cam, carbs and juice. He said he made fun of guys spending hours on dynos with their electronics, "wondering what they were doing?" while he'd make a few adjustments and be good to go. I guess it's easier when you're a chemist... haha...http://www.nhrasportcompact.com/2004..._Ezerioha.html

do a search here at AF. a yr or so ago somebody brought up that issue which caused many threads on the subject. most of what that guy was saying was BS. the good info comes in when the people tell him he's wrong and bust out some real numbers
whatever happened to mr carbs???

Re: any of you guys ever think about going carbed?
lol, well right now...im getting rid of my kliehin sidedrafts and going with a edlebrock proformer 500 cfm 4bbl carb on my prelude, using the manifold from an ES2 (2nd gen accord) and milling it for the edlebrock to fit.
there was a guy a couple of years ago that slapped a 4bbl on his a20 did some head work and had a cam with crazy lift made, and he was into the mid 13's thats what im going for ![]() you guys want me to keep you updated on the progress? when my lude is done it is going to take the words "modified lude" to a whole new level right now im swapping in a WHOLE 92 integra interior, dash, cluster, seats, console, steering wheel....everything as well as that, im tired of looking at my pop-ups and im looking for a set of 4g accord headlights, and as soon as i get my engine running the taillights from early spoken teg are going on in place of the ugly ass lude tails. i know, i know alot of work for a car thats not worth 1000.00....but hey...what can i say...im a hondaholic

I want to try carbs sometime. Side drafts on a d15 or d16. I think it would be so cool.
I also want to try ITB's too so... There is a lot of information about this on www.d-series.org

Re: any of you guys ever think about going carbed?
Just remember that if you do away with the multiport fuel injection and the sensors that go with it, you cannot use the stock ECU to control your ignition. you basically go from a computer controlled car to an old skool v8 era engine. You will need an MSD ignition or something similar, as well as something to trigger it. since the stock ECU isnt there, and isnt sending a signal to the ignitor to spark, you'll need a crank trigger.
IMO, carbs can make power, and for a handful of people, are "better" than fuel injection. Is it worth the trouble? probably not. There is a reason cars do not come out with carburators any more. Ami: i know who you are talking about.. i forgot all about that kid until you just brought him up lol |

Re: any of you guys ever think about going carbed?
carbs = teh suxor
I have worked on them, (motorcycles, lawn mowers, and old automotive engines). I can argue why on a technical basis if anyone feels the need, but please just trust me. fuel injection > carbs |

i must say though when i got the chance to work on my neighbors old f150, a carb was wayyyyy easier to work on than fuel injection. There are just so fewer things that could be wrong with it. Twas quite fun being able to adjust the idle and f/a mix with a screwdriver!
