Im thinking about buying this civic. the owner says its a 96 Dx with 120,000mi and a rebuilt engine. he also says it has a 3spd "japanese racing tranny" as well as its been converted to RWD. And its supposedly Vtec (Vtec DX???) ummmm im not sure about this.... im going to look at it hopefully within a few weeks.

I sure wouldn't want a 3-speed, RWD hatch. If all you're gonna do is race it on a straight track, it might have some weird kind of potential, but that thing would be shit for driving normally. You're losing half the benefits of driving a Civic. I also wonder about the loss of power to the wheels, since there's no weight in the back to push the rear tires down tight to the ground.
And I think you're right to be skeptical about the VTEC. It's a nice little decal, but I would check it out very carefully.
IMO, that car has been fooled around with too much to trust. Buying a used car is one thing, but buying one that has been messed with THIS much is a big risk.

yeah. i dont really trust this guy very much. i know him and ive seen some of the cars his shop works on....hes got a volvo station wagon. "twin turbo 315hp". ive ridden in it. let me tell you that is not 315hp. i can get the same car(civic) at one of my auctions for 2g so maybe il just do that.

that is bullshit i can almost garentee. first. thats a 92-95 civic, usdm or jdm its an eg not ek. second why would honda build a 3spd "race" trans? that would be sooooooooo stupid its unreal, the gears would be sooooooooo long there wouldnt be any acceleration. so bullshit there. 3rd. rwd conversion eh? you would know if it was cuz there would be some major mods to the underside of that civic. you would need to find a rwd honda (s2000 is only one that springs to mind) and then cut and weld so much just to fit the driveshaft in. plus i would like to see how he mount the trans.
i call so much bullshit on that kid i would slap him and laugh my ass for being stupid. better yet, bring him on here so i can laugh at him over the net.

oh yeah that vtec badge, you can get those off any gsr integras. so that proves nothing. i will show you a vtec motor if you wnat a pic

eh... it looks clean, I'd say with its non vtec sohc front drive motor and the cute little vtec badge (since that is probably all it has in it) it would be worth maybe 2,500

at least it appears to be. The mirrors arent painted but the door handles are. That was how the 92 si's came. It also has a sunroof. I cant tell if the sunroof is aftermarket, but i dont think so. Also, that is a custom color, they didnt come in silver in the US. If it wasnt an SI, why would he not paint the mirrors?

If it is an SI, it has VTEC.....but it has the almighty SOHC VTEC!!!
