Re: Altima gas door problem

My 2000 Altima has a problem with gas door although it looks closed it will from time to time pop open particularly distressing when going through a car wash because I always wonder if this time it will get ripped off. I don't attribute this to a door aligment problem but I think rather the latching mechanism is obviously failing to lock the gas door down properly everytime although it looks perfectly closed when it is obviously not!

Unhappy 2002 Maxima gas lid

I own a 2002 Maxima that has 30,000 miles and is still under warranty that has a gas door lid that is no longer flush and is very difficult to open. The dealer would not cover the cost to repair it under warranty and said that I should have oiled the hinges at every oil change. These instructions are no where to be found in an owner manual. Needless to say, I was not happy.
