Transmission problems

Hey guys. I got an 89 MX-6 GT and lately I've been having a lot of trouble with what I believe is the transmission. 3rd gear recently started not wanting to work, it's real hard to get it into 3rd most of the time like it just doesn't wanna go at all. I've been keeping an eye out at junkyards for tranmissions. Is there a diff. between the turbo and non-turbo tranny? Cuz I wouldn't wanna make the mistake of putting a weak one into a turbo and blowin that to shit. My friend and I checked my trans. oil level and it was extremely low so I added oil but it still runs like crap. I don't know what to do here other than just replace it. If anyone else has had this problem and can offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has replaced a trans. themselves and can offer any tips on doing that, I will probably be doing that shortly...thanks guys.

Re: Transmission problems

no there is no difference in tranny from the trubo or not... it is prolly a syncro or two that are fried.

Good luck changing the tranny yourself.. hope you have an engine lift. :/

Re: Transmission problems

when you check your tranny oil level, make sure you run the car for a while and shift/move through all gears...has to be check while hot. also, is your car an auto or manual, im guessing that it is a manual so...does the clutch move smoothly? the clutch could be bad if it doesnt. but if it is just one gear, yah, it probley is the tranny. i would have it checked out before you just go buy something though cause it could be something else.
