Keyless Entry Question '96 A4

I just bought a '96 A4 Quattro with leather seats, sunroof and cold-weather pkg. I was told it had keyless entry but the remotes were lost. Any way of checking this out quickly? If it is there, do I need to go with the Audi remote or can other types be programmed to work with this system?

..pretty sure you gotta go with an audi remote..they're all over ebay. check out the tech articles on www.audiworld.com
