1996 Cavalier Ran out of gas!
My husband ran our 96 Cavalier 2.2 out of gas. It now has 1/2 tank of fuel but won't start. It turns over and sounds like it wants to catch but it doesn't.
Any solutions? |

Re: 1996 Cavalier Ran out of gas!
Ok....,I am really in need of some help here! My truck driving husband is back out on the road and I need to be able to move this car!
I believe I need to check the fuel pump but I don't know where the part is to check for pumping! Then I am thinking the fuel filter? How difficult to change is this? Going to have to make sure he doesn't drive my 93 Z24...... |

out of gas
Some times when a fuel injected car runs out of gas it looses "it's prime" to speak. It can most of the be cured by turning the key to run 5 to 6 times but not actualy trying to start it. Every time you turn the key it sends a fuel pulse to the injectors. By sending multiple pulses it "reprimes" the system

Re: 1996 Cavalier Ran out of gas!
go with what jeepers87 said...Just put the key into the on pos. and you can hear the pump kick on. If that dosn't work then you have probably got debris in your pump of filter by letting it run out of gas. The filter is a fun little chore. If it has never been done before, your in for a treat. There is a little black clip. You want to push that in away from the filter and pull the filter out in the opposite direction. Don't break the tabs off or you will just make it a real mofo....g'luck
