Need to know if the Transmission of Ford Taurus 89 4 cylinders can substitute the transmission of 6 cylinders of the same make and model

The transmissions may interchange, I can't say for sure, but I would think the torque converts will have to remain with their respective engine, due to balance issues. I hope someone with some experience in this procedure will lend a hand.

I have a simple suggestion that I have done before. I go into the autozone website and enter the information on both vehicles and then search for a transmission. If they are the same, then you know but if they are different, the bell housing might be different or not match at all. I wouldn't think 4 and 6 cylinder engines would have the same tranny but you never know.

the 4 cylinder auto trans tauri had a 3-speed auto, so no its not the same trans.
