sup yall? well i'm new here and right now i dirve an 85 MKII Supra and well its fun but i want something faster and i have narrowed it down to either a 91 MKIII Supra Turbo or a 92 3000GT VR4 TwinTurbo (both 5 speed) and i already asked for an opinion on which to get over at suprafourms.com and of course they gave me resons on why i should buy the supra, well i wanna know the 3000gt guys opions and reasons on why i should get the 3000GT instead. I'v heard from the Supra guys that the VR4's are very expensive to maintain and always have problems...is this true? thanks guys

The 3000GT is like any other used car. If the previous owner took care of it, there shouldn't be any more problems then with any other car. The only thing that seems to be a hit or miss is the syncros in the transmission with some of the VR4s. I've owned two of them. One had a problem, the other never did.
I've had more repair issues with my 02 Accord EX then I ever had on my 94 VR4.

Re: new here have question
www.kbb.com may help you determine what you may wish to spend on it. He should have gotten the 60k tuneup done at 60k. It is a pretty damn big deal so ask him for some documentation of that.
I'm with Yogs on this one, if the previous owner took care of it, it will work fine, if the previous owner beat the hell out of it, it will probably need some work down the line. There are a few 'common' problems, but the same can be said of any other car. As Yogs mentioned, the synchros getting worn and grinding is the most common problem, but I don't have any problems with them on mine. Vr4s are expensive in some respects, simply because they are discontinued, meaning that they are fewer in number, so there isn't as much aftermarket stuff available as cheap as a honda or eclipse. Also they will be a bit more expensive to insure, because they are not as common. They use premium gas...as I am sure a turbo supra probably does as well. But you will absolutely love this car. Supras do have a larger aftermarket, so if you wish to push your vr4 sub-10s, be willing to do some of your own research and design, because as of now, it hasn't been done, stock v. stock, they are both amazing cars and pretty evenly matched in the 1/4. Do you want RWD or AWD? I have never owned a Supra, so obviously I am biased, but all I can say is if you get a vr4, you wont regret it.
