Battery terminal connections

One of my older Camry's -- both the positive and negetative battery cable clamps have been tightened down several times over the years and they no longer hold tightly to the battery posts. Does anyone have some ideas how to build up the diameter of the battery post or experience adding some kind of shim to snuge up the clamp. Replacing the clamps is one option -- just looking for other ideas right now.

Re: Battery terminal connections

Take the clamp off, remove the bolt, and file the part of the clamp, where the bolt goes through, that touches the other side of the clamp so that there is clearance and the bolt can snug down the clamp on the post. The clamp is soft lead so it is an easy job.

Don't add a shim - this can result in arcing and a potential explosion.
