All of those codes are just what happened to be assigned to an option package. LT1, LS1, Z06, WS6, Z71 - all of them are just codes. I am sure some were selected to sound nice, but if you fill out an order form, it is one of the check boxes. If you check the WS6 option, you get all of the extras in that package.

I'm pretty sure the first letter is significant like L is a engine type, W is a wheel package/option, S is a suspension option, and Z is a set of packages. But really there is no meaning behind it it's really just gm option codes made up almost by random.

im not positive but i think in the 60's the Z28 package meant: Z=Sport 2=2door and 8 means 8cylinder... Z28 = Sports car, 2 door V8

LOL car lovers just love trying to make sense of option codes. You can make it anything you want but fact is (as I'm told by a long standing high ranking GM employee) they're just standard run of the mill option codes pulled almost at random and assigned to things. Now I know people will keep coming up with meanings but officially they're not meanings that GM came up with or intended them to be. Well that last part is a little wrong, there are option codes that were named a certain way because the person assigned to make the code felt like putting a certain meaning behind it. But for the most part option codes have no hidden meaning.

Really?, i thought option codes were designed to have specific meaning. Like the shelby 350H had the extra h tagged onto it for hertz or like the dodge omni glh and shelby's glhs version for goes like hell and goes like hell some more. I could be wrong but i thought they really were intended to mean something.

LOL since when does a omni go like hell, omni can go TO hell. Also model types (SE, GT, LX, LS, etc etc) are NOT option codes. Option codes dictate things such as leather seats, engine type, power mirrors, suspension package, etc etc).

Yeah LX is just something car makers stick on the back of a cheap car to make it seem like a luxury car. like the word "sport" on the back of an escort doesn't make it a sports car.
