I have a 1996 Chevy S10 Blazer. My fuel pump went out so me and my dad replaced it today. During the process we broke a valve that is on the opposite end of the tank from the where the fuel pump is. Its on the top of the tank so surely all it can be touching is air im positive no fuel flows through it. The hose connects back to the fuel pump. Does this circulate fumes?? Either way we remembered on the slightly older van we have it did not have this extra "vent line?" so were hoping its not important. We stopped it up where the valve is as well as at the fuel pump - so its like it never existed - just cause i needed to get the truck running ASAP. We are trying to find out how important the piece is so we know if we need to replace it or if it will be ok. Does anyone know how important this little valve is? What is the proper name for it - we are having trouble calling around to the parts stores cause no one knows what my dad is talking about. Thankyou for any help!

Re: what is the vent line for?
The piece is a check valve for the EVAP system.. as far as I know it is a dealer only part.

Re: what is the vent line for?
I don't know how important it is, but I got a replacement for mine for ~$20. I had to call a couple of dealerships to get one though...
