What Year for Turbo Motor Outback?

I see that the 2005 Outbacks are offered with a 250hp turbocharged 4 cylinder motor. What year did turbocharged motors become available in the Outback?

Re: What Year for Turbo Motor Outback?

2005...

Before that, just the 4 and 6 were available in the Outback. A turbo motor has been available in the Liberty (Legacy) in some non-US markets before, as either a Liberty B4 or Liberty RS Turbo.

I hope they turbo the six someday. Nothing wild, just enough for altitude compensation. What an awesome high mountain SUV that would be!
