92 Park Avenue Stereo wiring harness and trim kit questions
I just took the dash apart in my 1992 park avenue to replace the stereo with a CD player and noticed that the wiring on the back is 4 separate plug ins. If I get the GM wiring harness to hook up a new stereo do these 4 plugins go into the harness with no problems and then just match these wires to the new unit. Also do I need the trim kit that projects out 1" from the dash for space problems or is the regular one fine.
Really appreciate any help. Gord |

Re: 92 Park Avenue Stereo wiring harness and trim kit questions
Be sure you get a trim kit that will bring it out about 1". When I put in an aftermarket stereo, the kit I used came with a flush mount face, one that came out 1/2" and one that came out 1". Not thinking, I installed it first with the flush mount face, had to replace it and went with the 1" one.
The factory connector that you get is one connector that the four in-car connectors plug into. I had no problems wiring up everything after that. They are all keyed to go in one way, so there is no risk of putting something in backwards. Let us know how it goes |

Re: 92 Park Avenue Stereo wiring harness and trim kit questions
Bubba, Dio has it exactly right...luckily, I 1st went with the projecting kit and it was tight, but worked. Ditto for the harness connections. Get a trim kit with a half-space EQ option, and you'll have some extra room under the head unit for connectors. I really needed it for 3 sets of line-out connections.

Yeah I got it in, but even with the extension and bending the metal plate and busting out the back wall of the compartment to get the stereo back it still sticks out about a 1/4 inch from the faceplate, but not noticeable. Thanks for the help. I also had trouble getting all the wires in with the extra input and output wires. Lastly the antenna connector was small and I could not get a converter near by so I just bent out the little metal clasps on the plug and it works fine.

Re: 92 Park Avenue Stereo wiring harness and trim kit questions
Oh yeah I almost forgot about that damn small antenna plug. I didnt feel like driving back to the auto parts store when I put my radio in, so I just cut the wire and spliced in a standard antenna connector I had in a box of random connectors and wires.
