The V35 body Skyline and G35 are the same cars. Both are available in sedan and coupe form in the US and Japan. Some options/models are the main difference between the US and Japan. For example, the US only has the VQ35 engine whereas Japan has the VQ25, VQ30 or VQ35.

Here's the Skyline site:

I heard that the G35 has the chassis of the 350Z and the same suspension also. In a big way the new Skyline (G35) is nothing liike the older ones.

Yes, the G35/Skyline share the FM platform with the 350/Fairlady Z.

The XVL concept, which basically became the G35/Skyline showcased the FM platform. The Nissan Stagea is basically a Skyline wagon. The G35/Skyline Coupe uses a wide track version. The 350/Fairlady Z uses a short wheelbase version of the wide track chassis.

There are even more variants out there, such as the Infiniti FX, which features a different front suspension so that it can use a V8.

There is an even larger FM, dubbed the 'FR-L,' or 'Front engine, Rear drive, Large.' The Nissan Fuga/Infiniti M45 concept was based on this chassis. The next Nissan Cima/Infiniti Q45 may be based on an even bigger version.

With rumors of a new Silvia coming, Nissan may shrink the FM, and come up with what I call the 'FR-S.' There's probably some other vehicles that could be based off this smaller chassis, as well.

Have skylines always shared platforms, or such a array of platforms. Isn't that the whole deal is that it was a purpose built car, basically brought from track to road. not the other way

Re: Is Nissan Skyline the same car as a Infiniti G35?

Most manufactors share platforms between models.
It makes good econmic sense as you then spend less on R&D designing each model, and less on production costs as a lot of parts can be shared, and the same tooling used to assemble differnt vecihles on the same production line.

Honda for example use on primary platform, and base all thier mainstreem models off of it.
Since 1973 its been the current model Honda Civic.
Everybody does it, from GM to Toyota, even Ferrari have done it.

Nissan however, at the time they were purchased by Renult had no less than 14 differnt platforms upon which differnt models were based.
Thats huge amount of resources being put into R&D and manufactoring, and was one of the reasons they suffered such great economic troubles.
When Renult purchased them they put a limit on the number of platforms they could use.

Yeah what's the difference with the VQ30, VQ32 and VQ35?

VQ30 in the JDM Sedan or base model?
VQ32 Mid-class (Like say the older GTST or something?) or Sedan?
VQ35 I know is in the USDM Coupe... anything else?

Any special info like the VQ32 is the best for a turbo over the VQ35 or something?

There is not an actual production VQ32 at the moment. If you're feeling industrious, you can actually build one yourself.
A VQ32DE = VQ35 block + VQ30 crank and rods. By destroking the already oversquare(bore > stroke) VQ35, you end up with a VQ32 that is quite eager to rev. With a modified ECU featuring a raised rev limit, it would be an interesting NA hybrid. Either that, or it could be a good turbo engine. That might explain the rumors that Nissan is developing a VQ32 for the GT-R.

The VQ30DE isn't used in the current Skyline as far as I know. There is a turbo VQ30DET used in the Cedric/Gloria twins. However, I think those cars are being replaced by the new Nissan Fuga, and there's no telling what the engines choices for that will be.

The VQ25DD(direct injection) is used in the Skyline 250GT. It produces 215hp.

The VQ35DE is the top engine choice for the Skyline, and the only choice for the G35s in the US.
