Just how fast is an Evo?

Im confused about just how fast an Evo is, specifically their 0-60 and their 1/4 mile. I suscribe to Automobile magazine and I bought a magazine called Speed in the store that is part of Road and Track. Speed magazine has a comparison of the evo and a dirt bike, and it says the evo does 0-60 in 5.6 and the quarter in 14.2. I looked around for the Automobile magazine im thinking of where they compared several sport sedans, evo being one of them, and I remember the times it had in there were similar to the ones in the other magazine.
I just finished reading an older thread on the Car Comparisons forums about who would win, a stock evo or a supercharged mustang with 420 hp, and the general consensus was that the mustang MIGHT beat the Evo, if it had a good driver. I mean if a car magazine editor can only get a 14.2 out of an evo how could a mustang with 420 hp be slower?

Different drivers, different driving styles, different test conditions, and production variances basically add up to one thing: Don't magazine race.

About the best you can do is have a comparison test done by one magazine(ex: Evo vs. STi in C&D or SCC), so that the drivers, driving styles, and test conditions are about the same. Even that isn't too great because it still doesn't take production variances into account. Sometimes there might be a factory freak making more power than normal, and others might be weaker than normal.

I keep hereing different times to. But I'm sure its not that slow. The Evo can go to 0-60 in about 4.8 seconds, and it does a low 13 in the 1/4. But, dont froget, the Evo is NOT a drag car, its a rally/track car. It will KILL the Stang on the track with curves, and turns.

yeah your right about the 0 to 60 and the quarter mile is 13.4.

Chancers are that the evo will be quicker then the stang, as it will have major traction problems on take offs at least, but if there running the 1/4 then the stang will probably real it in, but on a track evo definatley

True, the Stang is more of a drag car. But the Stang SUCKS on a real track.

IF you know how to launch an AWD turbo car(5000-5500 RPM to be exact) the EVO will turn mid to low 13's, IF you don't know how to launch one or you don't want to destroy your drivetrain you'll run high 13's-low 14's.

The EVO(STI too) is a 13 sec car ONLY because of AWD, NOT because of massive horsepower.

The low MPH trap speed in the 1/4 mile speaks volumes about their real HP.

An 03-04 stock supercharged Cobra Mustang properly driven with the right rear tires would kill an EVO/STI. I don't care what any magazine test said. 276-300 HP is no match for the 390+ HP of the Cobra. And the Cobra is no slouch out on the track either. Certainly AWD is a bonus, but....go try and race a Cobra from 70 MPH on out on the highway, the lower HP and drivetrain losses of AWD will have you VERY quickly looking at the Cobra's rear tail lights.

Yea the Cobra might be able to take it on the long streight, like the high way. And it might take it in the 1/4 mile, but thats because the Stang was made for drag raving. It wont take it on the track though.

Actually the Cobra was NOT designed for drags, it's IRS proves that and is a severe hinderance at the drag track, it's more suited to the real life open highway.
