Cavalier Lifespan
Hey guys, how long do these cavis last? I had a 92 grand am before this, and it died at 130k miles. I was skeptical, but I bought a 97 cavi z24 at 110k miles. I currently have 119k. How much longer do these typical last? It's got the 2.4L twin cam engine. I got mods on it too that might kill it faster.
Any past experiences/repairs/problems with z24 cavis around my era would be greatly appreciated, thank you. Basically I want to find out if its safe to add a couple more mods I want, but I dont wanna spend the money if its just going to crash and burn. Thank you again |

The Ecotec is a decent engine, I think you can get to 150k safely. I have a '90 z24 with a 3.1 v6 with just over 209k
it's still a great engine too.

Re: Re: Cavalier Lifespan
yea, im hoping to get at least 200k out of my car. its already at 119k and no problems yet, which is surprisingly. but hey, with my luck ill crack it up this winter - thats all i really should be worried about it, cuz its its lowered and we get a big snow. oh well.

Re: Cavalier Lifespan
I have a 98 2.2 with 99,149 miles. I'ts still going strong. I think the 2.2 and the 2.4 are great engines if you do regular tune-ups and oil changes.

I have a 98 Chevy Cav as well with close to 92,000 miles. My car is still going strong however I am having problems with my engine mounts. I just had my front and rear engine mounts replaced thinking that this would solve my problem with the whole damn engine shaking when I shift gears. Well this hasn't stopped it from doing it. Do you know anything about the transmission mount? This is the last possible mount that I may have a problem with....I was desperately hoping it wasn't so. Also since you have the same exact year and engine size maybe you would know exactly where the pvc valve is. The repair manual has a different engine so I did have the correct illustration. I have oil starting to seep out of the top of the engine, my dad said what he thought was a pvc valve isn't, it may be some type of air duct or something where the oil may have gotten clogged inside causing oil to seep out because air is not able to get through properly. I don't have a valve cover or head gasket problem either. Any suggestions?? Email me at: [email protected] Thanks, J |

Re: Cavalier Lifespan
well only thing i have to say is check the oil and keep that thing maintained it will run for a long time just like everything else.the 2.4 needs alot more maint.. than other motors.

I picked up a 98 Cav about 2 years ago and Wednesday the engine blew up with 127,000 miles on it. I bought it used of course which was one of the problems. The other problem was it had a loud ticking, like noisey lifters and everyone gave me warnings about it. With 115,000 miles I had to replace the injectors. Well today I traded it with the bad engine for a brand new 2004 LS fully loaded, sunroof, power all, alloy rims etc. I plan on taking care of this car from day one especially because I have free oil changes and maintenance included.
Tommorow in the day I will take a some pics of it, it's absolutly gorgeous with it's SEXY sun burst orange metallic paint! |

Re: Cavalier Lifespan
Your's should go fine to 200K if you don't beat the shit out of it. Change the oil regularly and keep the maintnence up it will last a long time.
