91 taurus tranny weird problem

Just drove my 91 wagon 500 miles. Next morning I'm in stop and go traffic in Miami and I stop for a light. Next thing I know I am revving in neutral. I push the beast out of the way, then started the car and it drove home (3miles) in second gear. Next morning I tried it out and drove fine for a mile or so then parked it. I didn't trust it to go further.
Anyone had this problem - what is it - electrical possibly or is it shot?

If your car is an automatic, have the transmission flushed and replace the trans filter. That should solve your problem
