'87 325es electrical problem
Radio suddenly stopped emitting sound. Radio unit, tape player and antennea all appear to be functioning properly - must be the amplifier - right?
Using Haynes manual find problem appears to be in connection between radio unit and amplifier. Manual describes wire color but gives no ideas on how to locate and repair. Guessing need to disconnect battery, go under the dash, find correct wire, inspect and replace or whatever. Any advise before I electrocute myself? |

i went thru this when my father and law and i replaced the head unit in my E30.
unless my 1991 is different than your 1987, the amplifier is in the trunk, on the drivers side, right above the rear wheel well. to get at it you need to remove the trunk shroud on that side. my amp is disconnected because i really did not need it, and it caused more problems then it was worth. it is a really lower power amp. what we did was spliced the wires that went from the headunit to the amp together with the wires that went from the amp to the speaker for each respective speaker set. in my E30 there are 8 speakers; 1 tweeter and 1 driver at each corner of the car. hope this helps
