Just had my car dynoed

I went with the local fbody group to a speed shop outside of Toronto and got my car on there. I was hoping for a bit more power but the car needs some tuning and I need to make sure its running right.

1st Pull = HP 172.4 TQ 284.8
2nd Pull = HP 186.3 TQ 276.8

Its an 89 5.7L TPI automatic. Its rated at 230hp/330tq from the factory. Basically all it has is an exhaust system and K&N filters. Its was running rich too but I guess its not too bad.

Before you call it a piece of shit keep in mind it has 260,000 kms on it and the motor/tranny have never been opened up. There were sparks shooting out of the exhaust when it was probably around 4500. I guess I should try and clean up the fuel injectors and see if my plugs and wires are ok.

Re: Just had my car dynoed

Thats not too bad considering how many km's are on the car! But I think its time for a rebuild!

Re: Just had my car dynoed

I might do something about the tranny but the engine isnt getting rebuilt till the rear main seal stops dripping oil and starts pissing it or the whole thing blows.

"lets just wait till my engine destroys itself"

sorry to be a smartass, but it doesn't seem smart to me, that's a nice motor the 5.7 tpi, i would let it crumble... just my

Re: Just had my car dynoed

The only part I plan on using off the motor is the upper TPI plenum and maybe some of the fuel injection goods. Everything else is crap, if I can reuse the block thats fine but to replace it will only cost a couple hundred bucks. Im having it machined for 4 bolt splayed caps too so any block will be fine really.

Everything else is going in the trash.

Re: Just had my car dynoed

kinda shaky there...when was the last time you serviced your ignition system (including having quality, not cheap, wires)?

Re: Just had my car dynoed

I havent done crap to the car since I bought it last summer. Is that what would cause the spikey graph?? Also, near WOT there were sparks shooting out of the exhaust. It seems to be running a little rich but I dont know how to fix that.

Re: Just had my car dynoed

yeah man, do a good tune up with some quality stuff and see how it runs. Usually when it is wavy like that it is from Wires. I am also looking at how flat your HP curve is and how drastic the drop is on the TQ curve. could be from the Ignitions system, weak valve springs, or bad rings! Check for blowby or do a compression test as well to see if the rings are good.

Re: Just had my car dynoed

yeah, because something is not right. your HP should not stop climbing at 3600 RPM's. Do you have a stock TQ convertor? Might want to find some stock 5.7 tpi graphs and compare yours to see where the figures should be, but I cannot see the Heads flowing that poorly to stop making power that early.
