Good deal??

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...&car_year=1990

I'm going to go look at this Z tomorrow.
It seems too cheap, and the guy wouldn't tell me much over the phone.
If you click to enlarge the pic, it looks like the car is wrecked on the passenger side, but I think it is just a poor quality picture.

What do you guys think? What should I specifically look for when I go see it. I'm not too familiar with the Z32's, I've only had Z31's.

Price seems inline for miles. If the owner is reluctant about giving information, then thats usually the first red flag. Good luck.

Re: Good deal??

Keep your eyes open.

Compare the body seams between the doors and fenders and whatnot from one side of the car to the other side. If they aren't the same, this is a dead give away of a poor rebuild job after an accident.

When you drive it, turn the radio off...listen to the engine. Go through the whole power band...if the guy bitches, smack him and tell him to shut the hell up.

Listen to the suspention...pay attention for creaks and/or groans or anything that seem out of place.

The guy being shady is a bit odd, but there is a possible reason for this. The only excuse for this is that he's had a lot of joy ride attempts and/or stupid kids bugging him. Judge his demeanor when you get there and go from there. If he's acting like a tweak, run...run far and fast...

EDIT: Ok...I made the mistake of typing all that before clicking the link...a 5-speed TT for under 5 grand? That car has low milage for its age...14 yrs old...10,000/yr...average to low. I would not even THINK about buying that without going over it with a micro-fine toothed comb first. "Too good to be true" is whirling around my head. Either there are some major demons in that car and they know it or they have no CLUE what they have. If it's the latter, write him a check IMMEDIATELY!

Re: Good deal??

Isn't that price a little too high for a 140k car? I know it's TT but is it worth it at that price?

I think the car will be more than worth it at $4,600. That is more like a N/A price. I haven't seen many TT's for this price.
Hopefully the car will check out okay. I'll be taking my old man with me when I go to look at the car. He'll be able to help me check out things under the hood.
I'm hoping the guys is just an idiot who dosen't know what he has.

And thanks for the great advice LLZ

Wish me luck!!

Re: Good deal??

a TT for under 5k?!?!?!?! there has to be something wrong with it. when i saw a tt for 7k it freaked me out. and that is about the price you would pay for a n/a with that many miles. so like llz said, either it is in crappy condition or he doesn't know what it is.

Well what i would do is, of course try for a lower price, no matter what it is. Just see how low you can go. But its not HORRIBLE for that car
-Ask for ALL REPAIR HISTORY, anything that was done to that car from its Birthday should be given to you.
-Test drive
-Assume the worst more or less. Check everything down to the fluids, smells if any when running or after running. Check for any leaks on the ground.
I jumped right into my NA and didnt think twice about it. I spent about 3k getting it normal with only a few more things to do if you can believe that. If I had known I would have rebuilt right off the bat.
Oh yeah check the trans and clutch and stuff like that, make sure that is all good. Demand a test drive though due to it being manual. He should at least give you that.

If i think of anything else ill post
good luck

there are a numerous amount of reasons why the guy was a bit stingy about specifics. if u decide to but it. make sure before u drive it u check all the fluids. i had my mom drive my z home, becasue of insurance purposes, but i forgot to tell her to check the fluids on the way home becaus ethe car had been sittin for a little while. burnt up the transmission on the drive home. me and my z didnt get off to a good start.
i would be a little iffy about a TT for less than 8,000 let alone 5,000. make sure u drive it and turbos are spooling. my first TT i test drove had a blown turbo and the guy still was drivng it everyday. i ran for the hils on that one. look up the vin # on carfax.com. that will tell u all about the car right there.

only bad thing about carfax is that it only shows up reported accidents. mine was in one and i found out by just looking at the engine for awhile saying..hmm this looks cracked or messed up or not equal to the other side.

very true but usual major accidents are reported that need to be looked over. u dont wanna buy a car that had been in a major accident and the frame has been bent. plus it tells u how many owners and what not

Re: Good deal??

im lucky, they guy the i bought my car form gave me a carfax report. if the frame on a 300zx bends, you don't want it. on a z, either the frame doesn't bend at all or bends a lot, there isn't much of in between.
