clutch is slipping after replacement

Hello,
I've recently replaced my clutch assembly since the transmission was slipping. The problem is that new clutch is slipping as well. My mechanic and I are dumbfoined about why. The clutch cable is adjusted all the way and I still don't have any free play on the clutch. I own 97 Jetta GT 2.0 with manual adjusting clutch cable since the self-adjusting one is known to be faulty. Anyone experienced the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Re: clutch is slipping after replacement

maybe ur pressure plate is damaged or worn. if the clutch and the flywheel have fresh surfaces and are free of transmission or engine oil and there is adequete pressure then it should be holding. hehe maybe ur just adjusting the cable the wrong way
