what causes this?

when I shift the car into drive, it jerks forward. Only when I put it in drive, not in reverse. Someone told me it's motor mounts. What do you guys think?

Re: what causes this?

have somebody watch the motor when you do this. If the motor jumps to one side, it is the mounts. replace them with Energy Suspension Poly mounts and never worry again about them.

Re: what causes this?

lol, does he drive a yugo??????? just smile and say, thats my friend torque

but no that has to do with line pressure in the tranny, does the car actually move, like the brakes dont hold it???? if so you have a problem, but if the car just kinda jerks but dosnt move, id say youre fine.

Re: what causes this?

well something to try, and i just learned this myself, on the TPI cars, trace the throttle cables back from the throttle body towards the firewall, a few inches back from the butterfly lever there will be a black box that one of the cables goes through. push the square side into the housing, and then push the cable back inside of it towards the firewall. then let out the square button. now get in the car and push the throttle all the way down, and you will here the buzz of the cable adjusting its self. this is the kickdown cable for the trans, and was causing me major headaches cuz mine wasnt adjusted right. i fixed it, and MAN what a difference

Re: what causes this?

yeah. ist normal like 89 was saying, but if its like that is ok too, its not the kickdown though its the throttle valve cable, sorry 89 but there is quite abit of difference. like he was saying, its the line pressure, when that cable is tighter it opens the throttle valve in the tranny more sooner and it creates more line pressure, witch creates fermer shifts. if you loosen it, well or corectly adjust it like 89 was saying then it will be right like it was saposed to be from the factory but it will change the shift charecteristics(spelling) some. the tighter the cable the fermer the shift, the looser the less responsive and crips the shift, not atlot but some, but also, too loose, and there goes your tranny.

Try readjusting your tv cable. After you adjust it back to factory specks, move it back towards the firewall one click. I PROMISE you will like the results

thish is a long shot, but how old are the rear brakes? if they goin bad then that could contribute to that thrust when u go in drive. Its a great feeling havinng all that power in front of ya tho. if you want, try to put it into drive over gravel, holding the brake like you would normally. if the wheel(s) spin or you slide forward, when that happens, id check out the back brakes to see if they are worn. o and by the way, i learned the hard way you dont wanna let those go too bad. if that car wasnt attacked by the cancer (aka rust) i woulda needed new wheel cylinders in back and lengthy bleeding procedure.

hope this helps a lil
