17 inch fit...

heys,

I was just pondering aftermarket rims for a 2003+ SXT...
will 17x7.5 fit well?
I'd also like to get slightly oversized tires to increase the rolling diameter a bit, say 215/50R17's rather than the stock 195/60R15's.
I plan to up the power output, and the 1st gear is fairly low already on the manual, so i wanted the bit of overdrive the bigger tires would give.
Also it would raise the car slightly, so when i lower the suspension it'll go over speed bumps.

... but will that work?
or will i rip out my wheel well the first time i hit a pot hole or turn hard?

thanks for any input,

Kath

well, as snifty as coilovers are... I was just going to cut about 1" out of the springs. (maybe cut 1.5" out in back, level it out a bit)

With the oversized tires that would be only a 0.5" drop in ground clearance. (or i might just cut a half inch out in front and an inch in back for pretty much stock ground clearance)

they already handle pretty well, between new wheels, better rated tires, and the moderate lowering, it should handle really nice
if there's room for it all to be done.

For what it will cost you to cut the springs and re-align the car, you might as well go with aftermarket springs. It'll cost about the same anyways, and you'll have a better ride. The Eibach Pro Kit gives ya a 1.5" drop and is around 150-200 bucks. Plus the stiffer springs will give you a sportier ride. That's what I would do anyways

I have a 2000 neon with 17x7.5 ICW racing 786h's and 215/40r/17 tires along with eibach prokit springs, they fit extremely well and it handles like you wouldnt believe. You probably know this by now but you are gonna feel every imperfection in the pavement. but like i said it handles like a dream and the looks you will get from people makes it all worth 1300 to 1500 bucks

oh yeah; you dont want to get your tires profile too big because it'll ruin the look of having oversized rims. all people will see is the big black doughnut on you rims

Re: 17 inch fit...

I put some 17" X 7.5"ADR rims with 215/40R/17 Nankens and some Eibach Pro kit 1.5" lowering springs. The car handles great and not to mention looks fabulous. by the way mines is a year 2000.
