2002 Subs install - Too Loud

I wired an RCA converter to the sub wires in the back of my tahoe (to the stock sub wires, Delco). I have (2) Kicker CompVR 12s, with a Sony 1600 watt mono amp. When I turn the bass knob all the way down (kept stock deck), there is still quite a bit of bass in the music. Is there a way to turn the bass all the way off (for the wife)?
Thanks...

Maybe turn down the bass on the unit itself...

Lower the crossover frequency on the amp and or turn the gain/frequency down.It will never be perfect running a converter from a factory deck, But it should still sound good. Part of the trouble is the factory systems bass and treble controls are marginal at best and you may find that you will have to have the treble up and the bass down to get good sound. Your problem is also that you have subs running 1600 watts and a head unit for mids and highs running maybe 10 or 20 so the bass is overpowering. My first reccomendation is check the crossover frequency as that is the most likely culprit. I used to have 2- 10" subs hooked to the factory deck with a converter and amp and expierenced the same problem. I then bought a Kenwood Excelon head unit and wow what a difference. Since then I changed to 2 Infinity Kappa perect 10 subs, Kenwood Excelon 401 mono amp, Infinity Kappa 6.5" component speakers with a Kenwood Excelon amp up front, Kenwood 4x6" speakers with a Kenwood amp in the rear and a 1 Farad capacitor with four gauge power cable from the battery. Total system is 900 watts RMS and man does it sound good.

you can simply wire a single throw toggle wswitch into the remote wire to your amp and theat will shut your amp off

[Headunit(cd Player)]-----------[Toggle switch]-------------[Remote wire on amplifier]
this way when your wife is in the car you can simply flip the toggle to turn the bass off then when she gets out turn it back on.

I used to own a 88 full size jimmy with 3 jl 12w6's seriously under powered by a pheonix gold amp that was only putting out approx 300 watts and it did 135.5 db at a show once and that was not loud enough

Oh and i agree with the idea of putting a switch on the remote wire for the amp.

Re: 2002 Subs install - Too Loud

I had 4 15" MTX Thunder 8000's, powered by 2 Alpine 1500 W amps, and 2 "Fairy caps" all running off a Kenwood CD player.....crammed in a 1994 Dodge Shadow. ........They all got stolen at work.......... BTW, I didn't have a backseat anymore. Of course that was all before the wife and kids. I agree with the toggle switch!
