04 Econotec 2.2 Engine

Just how strong/customizable is the new econo engin in the cavalier? I've heard a little bit on it, some say it suxs, others say it rocks, but I'm looking to get someone who can look at both sides and give me a "fair" review of the car and its tuner-ability.

Re: 04 Econotec 2.2 Engine

its stronger internally than the 2.4 twin cam and it's a drivers race between 2.4 and Eco.

A guy ran 15-21 psi of boost for around 40000 miles on an Ecotec with no problems...that should tell ya how strong it is.

Re: 04 Econotec 2.2 Engine

it's a toss up depending on situation. being a new engine no one has a lot of experience with one. there are no upgrades as of yet for the ignition system (without converting the whole thing over $$$), but the car it's self can get in the high 15s stock. i put a short ram on mine so far and hit 15.5. coilovers and headers are next, i'll keep ya posted on times.

No 4 cylinder motor, N/A from the factory will hold 15-21PSI of boost. NONE what so ever. unless that motor is fully built.

All i know is that a buddy of mine that works for GM says that the Ecotec is one of those engines thats gonna be sold out to other manufatures. Second, the ecotec was tested with a 22 psi boost and the engine did not blow. Look at the Ecotec cavalier in NHRA its running almost 800 hp it has 21 psi boost

Re: 04 Econotec 2.2 Engine

that motor is fully built too, isn't it? Yes it is..

Stock internals would NEVER hold 22psi.
