04 passat tdi "whistling" noise

Brand new 04 with strange whistling from 40-60 mph. Service department said " it is normal and he had heard it in other 04's" and some internal part or bearing. Today I realized that it is likely the sideview mirrors with the built-in directional signal making the noise. Anybody have the whistling thing with their 04?

I have heard of the mirror problem and it seem common. Try affixing something small to the leading edge of each mirror as it will change the airflow and should help you get rid of the problem. What mileage are you getting?

Thanks for the tip on quieting the whistle. I have been getting about 39-40 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on longer stretches. I am only 3000 miles in so I'll have to see what happens in time.

I have an '05 Passat TDI and am averaging about 35 to 36 mpg. That is mostly from city driving though. I average about 41 to 42 on the freeway at about 75 to 80 mph.
