99 Black Galant Paint Problem

I have a black 99 Galant and the clear coat is flaking. I now have white spots all over the top of the car. Can anyone tell me if they have had the same problem. The dealer says I must have set something on the car to cause the sun to bake the clear coat which is crap. I have never put anything on my car. I have found a couple of people that have had the same problem. If you are having or had this problem. I would like to know what you did. Thanks!

actually i think its all galants that have this problem ive seen many glants with the paint coming off on the roof of the car including mine i think its the paint an clear coat that mitsubishi uses and they give you excuses as to why its your fault and not theirs i suggest you go back to the dealer and say that you know a bunch of ppl with the problem and complain i dunno lol they may do sumthing for you

damn, I have a friend with a 1999 black galant too, and his paint is flaking so bad, its looking like a penguin color scheme. especially on the roof.

I have a black galant too and has the same problem, mostly on roof and over the trunk. I thing I will get it painted soon.

Mitsubishi actually fit a teflon coating to their vehicles(as do a lot of Jap manufacturers) to resist acid rain, chemical solvents etc
Normally starts flaking off tho, which is why they no longer use it.

Thanks for responding everyone. It is still a fight with Mitsubishi, but I want my car painted! So if you know anyone with the same problem, keep them coming.

I also have a 99 Galant, I bought it used a little over a year ago, and the same thing started happening to the top of my car about 6 months ago. I wasn't sure what was wrong, didn't know if it was due to the prior owners, but all of you have confirmed it's not just me. I might just end up getting it repainted, or complain to the dealership, not sure yet.

I also have the same problem the paint is chipping on my hood really badly. i took it to two paint shops and I was told that the car was never sanded when it came from the factory so that's why its chipping. This is a company problem and needs to be handled and taken up with Mitsu Corp. dealers don't seem to know much. The paint on a 4-5 year old car should not be chipping!

My 99 black gallant look absolutely terrible due to the same problem. I have white triangles all over the hood and trunck. It is so upsetting. I just got a bid for $1200, but do not want to pay.

go to car paint supple story buy some clear coat and a spay gun that what i did by myself
