dual voice coil sub question

Ok I hooked up one of my friends subs for him about a month ago and I am wondering if I did it correctly. It was a rockford 12 " not sure of rms or stuff but it was 4 ohms resistance. I conected the positves and negatives to each other on the sub itself then ran the "spare line" to the amp where I had it bridged that is something for watts at 4 ohms. what kind of load would this be running on the amp? It is a 2 channel amp would it be better to run each voice coil on its own channel?

Re: dual voice coil sub question

I'm guessing it was dual 4ohm (each coil was 4ohm)?

If so, you have it wired to 2ohm, and the amp is only stable at 4ohm bridged. This will shorten the life of the amp, and chances are it will cause it to go into protection at high volume.

Re: dual voice coil sub question

ya it is a dual I forgot to say that somehow would it be better to run each coil on its own channel?

Re: dual voice coil sub question

well, if you did that the amp would be happy, but you would get 1/4 as much power going to the sub. The choice is up to you *shrug*

Re: dual voice coil sub question

it is a Kenwood 1000 watt supposidly, think it could handle it I wanna say it was 200 watts rms at 2 ohm out of each channel not sure though and I think the sub was an HE

Re: dual voice coil sub question

so right now you would be pulling about 6-800 watts out of the amp at full output before it shit itself

If you wired each coil to each channel then you would get 200 reliable watts.

You can leave it as it is if you want, but don't be surprised if the sub dies (from all the power) and takes the amp with it, or if the amp just dies from being run at 2ohm mono.
