Malibu won't start

My 99 Malibu SL won't start. Turn the key about all that happens is the time on the radio goes out while key is depressed. THe fuel pump seems to be running for a few seconds.

Prior to this the car has been sitting for a month, only being driven about 10 miles a week and the battery went dead so I charged it and was OK.

Set for two more days and battery went down again barely turned the engin so I charged it again and later tried to start it and then nothing.

Everything else on car works. Batter seems to have taken the charge

Car has 150.000 miles on it and original battery.

Any helf will be appreciated.

After trying to start the vehicle does the security telltale stay illuminated?

The "Security System" light comes on when I turn the key on and when I turn it to the start position the light goes out.

About a month ago the gas gage also wuit working.

Hmmm, it sounds like there's a problem with the security system. I think I've heard of people have this problem with the Malibu (or a similar problem involving the security system).

Batteries generally last 3-4 years and nowhere near 150K miles. You need a new battery for cripes sake!!

I replace mine, needed or not, every 3 years.

Go to Sears, they're the best, IMO.

My sister's '99 Saturn SL sits for months at a time, with no one driving it, and it always starts right up.

Re: Malibu won't start

A battery is on my agenda for today...I really hope that fixes it. The nearest garage is 20 miles away and its an Old's dealer and you don't get out of there for less then $600.00 regardless of what it is.

The car was my my company car and I am buying it. I put all the miles on it and to date have had no problem with it other then the AC cutting on and off, AC runs OK on low speed though.

Appreciate all comment's and will start with battery and if that don't do it will get out my checkbook

Battery didn't do it but needed it anyway.

Thank goodness I still have the 48' Chevy which I can work on at the rare times it needs it.
