another cobra...?
OK, so I'm going on the assumption that most of you read the thread of me losing to that cobra a week or 2 ago. Well last night on the way home from work(same road) a red cobra ( a little snake emblem in front of the passenger door) pulls up next to me. Not sure of the year, and I've been told that the 'older' ones don't have the supercharger. Regardless, I am thinking to myself great, now I get to see if that other one I raced was stock. So I rev a bit to this guy trying to get his attention. Well he looks over, doesn't rev, but smiles at me. So now I am thinking is he going to race or what. So the light goes green, and I don't launch, just to see if he is going to. Assuming if he does, we can always go again at the next light. Well he doesn't launch hard, but then as we get through the intersection he guns it in first. Now I'm like a half car behind, and still in first. So I gun it, at the shift to 2nd I pulled, and left him behind in 2nd. He let off and quit and turned off at the next intersection(prick). But at least I took him from a roll and had a good time (for a short 7 seconds).
Edit: I never heard a supercharger, so my assumption was he didn't have one.

Re: another cobra...?
If I am not mistaken, only the 03+ have a factory SC, but a Cobra is always a good kill.
I learned my lesson with an 03 the hard way. I got walked from 80-130, but I got to talk to the guy and it had a smaller pulley (??? I am not versed in the operation of SCs, but I guess it makes some power somehow), exhaust and a few other goodies, so I'm not beating myself up.

Re: another cobra...?
Yeah same thing happened to me, we took it up to 140(first cobra, and it def was SC), but he pulled hard on me 2x and made sure I knew it. Same reaction, the guy was cool, and I was happy to take that loss.

the 03's are 390hp stock, and thats kinda underrated. Few mods(exhaust and pully) and they are low 12's high 11's.
As for the tire ratings a tires speed rating works like this. If a tire is a rated for 100mph that means it can last at LEAST an hour and a half going 100mph. You can generally take it over the speed rating for short bursts without a problem. Z rated tires work a little differently. 17" Z rated are for 149mph+, so they are gaurenteed to be fine above 149 for an hour and a half. 18" Z's are 168mph+, and 19" Z's are 186mph+. The plus on the end garantees above that speed rating, and most are easly capable of over 200 without problems. |

Re: another cobra...?
Older cobras (esp. 95-96) are kind of pussified. If it was a new model cobra (2000+), good kill
