Re: 2001 pontiac grand am cranks but wll not start
not that this may work but check to see if your getting any spark off one of your plug wires if not then it could be ignition coil or ignition module. and this happened to my dad his fuel pump wire was disconnected

Re: 2001 pontiac grand am cranks but wll not start
Some engines have 2 coils that control the spark so make sure all plugs are getting spark. My next check would be to see if there is fuel reaching the injectors. Check if you hear the fuel pump turn on when you turn the key. If you don't, check fuel pump relay and fuses.

Re: 2001 pontiac grand am cranks but wll not start
checked the relay and still no workie guess we gonna have to drop the ding dang tank again and take the fuel pump back cuz it wont turn on, old pump would turn on but would not pump gas so we
think that is still problem |

Re: 2001 pontiac grand am cranks but wll not start
Do this:
It could be your Fuel Pressure Regulator failing. The Fuel Pressure Regulator has a diaphragm inside and if that diaphragm ruptures, excess fuel is sucked into the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum hose and into the intake. Check the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum hose for any sign of fuel inside the vacuum hose (do it after running the engine for a while). If you have a fuel pressure gauge tester, then use it and verify the fuel pressure during testing. Failing CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor). If the CTS fails, it will give out an incorrect reading to the computer. The computer controls how long to open and close the fuel injectors based on the information the CTS gives to the computer. |

Re: 2001 pontiac grand am cranks but wll not start
when you put the key in the on position is the security light flashing? If it is leave the key in the on position until the security light stops flashing (about 10-15 minutes) then take the key out and put back in and crank. If this does the trick it's your ignition switch. Just had ours fixed sounds like the same problem.

Re: 2001 pontiac grand am cranks but wll not start
thanks ya'll when we checked the pump again my stupid idiot friend had forgotten to put the electrical
wiring back into the new pump and that is why the pump would not work thanks car is running fine but not so sure i trust it since it is a 01 and fuel pump is already went out but its ok gonna drive it till the wheels fall off |

Fuel pressure regulator
Please check the easiest things first. I had a gas smell coming when I started the car and finally one day it just stopped on my wife. I opened the hood and scanned for any obvious problems and saw that there was fuel leaking from the regulator. I replaced the regulator and all problems are gone. Hope this helps.
