Crankshaft damper

I have a 1988 Escort GT multiport FI and a manual transmission. Then rings are bad. I have another engine from that had single port FI and an automatic engintransmission that was wrecked but the engine is good. I want to swap blocks and FI manifolds. The question is that the MP FI, MT has a crankshaft damper, but the SP FI, AT does not. Where is the damper on this engine? Do I need put the damper on the good engine? help?

Re: Crankshaft damper

I've never seen an engine without one. I'd put the dampner from the bad one on the good one in exactly the same place it is on the bad one, if it fits. If not, may need to visit Ye Olde Junkyard.

Re: Crankshaft damper

The 1.8L engine does not have a crankshaft damper just a pulley. The model of engine you indicate is not familiar to me but if it is a 1.8 then you will not need the damper since it never came with one.

Re: Re: Crankshaft damper

Thanks. The Haynes book only discusses a 1.3L, 1.6L, and a 1.9L. Did you mean a 1.9L or could this really be a 1.8L? The book indicates the enigine lable is on the timing belt cover which is now illegible. Is there another way I can detemine the details about the engine?

Re: Crankshaft damper

Most vehicles have another sticker under the hood. Just open the hood and look up.
