Re: ls vtec turbo or gsr turbo

This has been gone over many times. Use the serch button. But since I am already writing....It all depends on you plans for the motor. If you are'nt going to replace pistons/rods, then I say go with the ls/vtec for sure, you can run more psi due to the lower compression pistons in the ls block. You will also see a much better torque curve with the ls/vtec. ALl in all you will see alot more power with the ls/vtec than the boosted b18c1 gsr motor. Of course thisdoes depend on wheather or not you are building the block and such. If you are, then it really comes down to how much you want to spend. Both could be equally as fast in the end, you will just spend more money on the gsr motor! hope this helps

Re: ls vtec turbo or gsr turbo

GSR. Superior gearing means you'll be faster even if you do make a bit less torque. On top of that, the size difference between the 2 motors is a WHOPPING 31CC's. If you think you are going to notice 2-3 ft-lbs under the curve, you're wrong. Compression ratios on the two motors are so similar with a VTEC head on the LS that you arn't going to notice anything either.

So if they are the same price, go GSR. If the LS is significantly cheaper, I would go that route.

I'm with boosted331 on this, GSR all the way.

Here's an excellent read about why LS/VTEC isn't all it's quite cracked up to be, and why they MUST be build 100% perfectly to work right and last a decent amount of time.

Re: ls vtec turbo or gsr turbo

ya. the gsr tranny is far superior. I neglected to bring that up. Gearing is so often overlooked. It doesn't matter how much power your car has if isnt geared right then it doesn't do much good. And the ls/vtec makes more than 2-3 hp under the curve than the gsr when boosted. When stock that is true, but the boosted ls block creates quite a bit more torque than the gsr. That is just one area. The GSR is a better platform to start from though, it would probably just be more money! I am assuming this guy has an ls, and is trying to decide wheather or not to swap motors, and turbo, or just put a vtec head on and turbo, and if he does already have the ls, I say ls/vtec because it would be cheaper. But if you are starting with nothing, and don't already have an ls motor, I would def say go with the gsr!
