low trac light

I am having a problem with the low trac light coming on, it only comes on when I turn the whel to the left and the car can be in park and it will still come on if you turn the wheel to the left but it doesn't stay on long & my mechanic said it did not send a code to the computer. Does anybody out there know what it could be? The car is a 1997 Grand Am GT.

Re: low trac light

I would guess a wheel sensor, or short somewhere in wiring for it

Re: low trac light

I agree. Check to make sure the sensor on the back of the wheel hub isn't unplugged or partially unplugged.

Re: low trac light

Do this. Remove each wheel sensor and usually they have a small magnetic rectangle in the middle which senses the speed of the wheels. Over time they accumulate magnectic particles and it will cover the main sensor (small magnectic rectangle) and block it. Clean it good and also clean the entire sensor itself because inside is also magnetic. You might want to use a more powerful magnet to transfer those magnetic particles away from the sensor.
