HELP!4WDproblems(I think)

I have a 95' Cherokee w/ command trac 4WD. The lever is not engaged yet it feels like it is pulling when turning on dry pavement (steering wheel pulse) Does this sound at all familiar to anyone? What might I do?

Probably the 4WD is not disengaging. That is most likely a vacuum failure. Vacuum harness where it connects to transmission (they vibrate loose on rough terrain) or at the right front axle shift motor.

My old 86' Pioneer with comand trac had that medusa vacuum mess up at the front axle and the lines were constantly breaking, along with "the fork". I wasn't aware that the 95' had anything external to the transfer case you could look at. Where abouts do I look?

HI I DON'T BELIEVE 95'S HAD THE FRONT AXLE DISCONNECT THINK JEEP DID AWAY WITH IN 91-92, LOOK ON FRONT AXLE IT USED TO SET ON AXLE TUBE PASSENGER SIDE HOPE THIS HELPS DALE

Hey Dancnancy, I had the same problem with my 98. What felt like being in 4x4 was really 2 front stuck U-joints. Everything was fine till you made a slow left or right turn and the steering wheel would pulse a bit back and forth. A buddy told me that they ( the stock ones ) were only good for 50000 miles here in the salty climate, I was at 55000 at the time of replacement. I put in greaseable ones and everything is fine now. Mine were really bad, the bearings were just about gone.

Awesome. You know that was my next thing to check out. A couple months ago(oops) I would accelerate from a stop while turning, say to the right, and I would get the charactersistic THUD THUD THUD THUD in the floor boards. Probably should have got to this sooner.
Can you recommend a brand of greaseables? Thanx again!!

I'm not too sure what my buddy put in for me. I had a ball joint loose and I thought that the u-joints were bad so I asked him to replace all ball joints and both joints while he had it apart. I asked him to put in all grease type and he did but the only funny thing was the lower ball joints can't have a fitting on them. The u-joint is too close, there is no room for the fitting. So if I have to do it again I will skip the greaseable lower ones. He used top of the line after market parts though.

My 88 is running all greasable u-joints & shackles. Brand of choice is "Spicer" . I wont run anything but greasables. (saved my backside a few times vs stock ones.) Also if your looking to help smooth out the ride look into Lithium Grease Plates to put between all leafs (similar to Old Man Emu lift kit springs).
