Re: ford F150

Not sure why this was in Buick, I'll let the Ford guys sort this one out.

Moved from Buick Regal->Ford F-Series

Re: ford F150

On the front of the throttle body is a retangular sensor unit with two hoses coming out of it and an electical conntector. You will have to remove the plastic throttle linkage to see it. This is a common failure, but most mechanics will replace the egr valve first. I have yet to see an egr valve go bad on the 4.9L, but this sensor will cause a lot of trouble. It will also cause the same problem on the 5.0L.

For the 1464, check you blower switch ans see if you have all ranges. If you do not, look under the passenger side of the hood. You will see a 4 wire plug going into the A/C box. Remove the two screws holding it and look at the control unit. If you see any burns, replace it. While there, clean the debris out of the case with a small tube vacuum cleaner. Debris, like leaves, will short the unit out.

Re: ford F150

If you are still getting this code, it could be a possible number of problems from a cracked or blocked vacuum hose, blocked EGR tube, stuck EGR valve or the electronic vacuum regulator failure.

I would start with the egr valve and tune and make sure that it is free and clear. It is a job but you will need to loosen it at the block and make sure that you can blow easy through it. Also check the two vacuum lines to the DPFE sensor and the vacuum line coming out of the top of the EGR to the regulator. If these are clear, you may have carbon/sludge blocking the area where the EGR tube attaches to the block.

This will be trial and error. A cracked vacuum hose is hard to find, especially if your tubes are the hard plastic that Ford seems to like to use now. They are routed through the harnesses.
