electric fan conversion

I'm doing the electric fan thing and I was wondering how I should go about choosing a fan. Do I just call summit racing and ask them for a fan that will fit in my 240 or what?

i used the fans from a 89 nissan sentra. its a 11.5 inch fan and a 10.5 fan. i bought the fan for 50 dollars at a junk yard. all you gotta do is run both power and ground wires in series. then find the power and ground wire from your electric fans. then just splice the wires with the butt connectors. the only thing is htat you have to make custom brackets to get the fans to fit. this is because only one peg lines up at the bottom.

there is also another alternative. you use the fans from a G20 or a B13 sentra with a SR20. those fans will fit perfectly on the radiator. both bottom pegs line up, and the two top brackets line up too. the thing is though, you have to buy 2 of them. one primary and one a/c condensor fan. they are also generally more expensive.

the results of my fans are really good though. i would use to over heat when its 65 degrees outside becusae my intercooler is blocking too much air flow to the radiator. it would only overheat if i'm stuck in traffic for an hour. and i can forget about turning on the a/c beucase it would overheat instantly. after i installed my 89 sentra fans, the car can sit in traffic for hours and hours, and even with the a/c on, the temp needle would not go up. it was a very good investment, but you need to be creative to get them to fit right.

edit: and yes i did feel a noticable difference in power as well.

hey TatII what would be a good fan to get?? I was thinking about getting a greddy fan. Exactly what size would be a perfect fit though?

i wouldn't get any of those aftermarket ones. becuase you need the ones with a shroud for it to work perfectly. those flex a lite fans don't cool as well becuase it only cools that small area that the fan covers. if the have a shroud like the factory ones, the shroud itself forms a sucktion across the whole area of the radiator that it covers. there fore there will be no hot spots in the radiator. so i suggest gettin the B13 sentra fans. both of them. its should be a straight bolt on just like the dual flex lites. but you'll be saving over 100 dollars. because the flex a lite fans aren't direct bolt in, you still have to do wiring, and you have to put those cheap zip tie things to hold it in. while the B13 sentra fans will mount up perfectly with the stock mounting points.

I have a 1991 240sx and I did an electric fan upgrade. I got a 14-inch flex-a-light fan upgrade I definitely saw a power gain. Also on top of that I also have a lot more open space in the engine bay. And you do not need another thermostat because 240sx already have an electric fan you can just splice into the wiring of that fan. And it works amazing. The whole mechanical fan assembly is cumbersome and heavy it is defectively worth it to upgrade. However you cannot get rid of that pulley because that is the water pump pulley.

The part number that I am using is 114 from flex-a-light. I have been using this setup for at least 3 months now and the car has never overheated once and this is in the summer. Anyway e-mail me at [email protected], I have pictures. The installation is a sinch it takes one person about half and hour to do it. It is probably the easiest upgrade next to an intake. All you do is take out the mechanical fan and the stock electric fan and then replace with the new fan and splice into the old wiring. The fan turns on and off when the car gets to a certain temp, just like a stock fan. It is important to note that you should look at the CFM's because that is a big factor. If you are running a turbo of course you will need a bigger or second fan.

I am using the stock 91 240sx A/C fan with the 89 thermostat. I live in the desert and run an SR with a side mount. It only heats up when I run it real hard on a hot day.

Im gonna do this Electric fan conversion because my engine sounds like its a V8 with that fan in there haha, and plus my belt squeeks when i take my RPMs past 3,000 so i drive like a grandma trying not to sound like a retard with that loud squeeking (more like squeeling)

SO i go to a junk yard, get a fan from B13 Sentra... any year with the SR20 engine? Now my AC fan in my 240, is that going to be in the way of the sentra fan? or should i get both the AC and the radiator fan from the sentra?

fishman over here said "you do not need another thermostat because 240sx already have an electric fan you can just splice into the wiring of that fan" Splice it into the stock AC fan you mean? but that means it wont turn on till you turn on AC right?

If i get a turbo should i upgrade the fans later? or these stock ones from the sentra work just fine?

If anyone have anymore info on the fan conversion, or how to connect the wires and where, please share. Thanks

your fans will turn on on their own when the sensor sees that the temp is alittle high. however that is with a S14. i'm not sure about the S13. to test this, just leave your car idleing for like 10 minutes and hear if you hear a 2nd fan kick on. if you do, then the same trick will work for a S13.

you need to elimate the a/c fan becuase it will be replaced by 2 fan's from a B13 sentra. i believe they all use the same fan no matter the engine option. but you need to buy both fans. the a/c fan and the radiator fan.

but by removing your mech fan, your still goin to get that squeek from the fan belt becaues the fan belt also drives your water pump. so if i was you, just tighten that belt for now. the tensioner is near the power steering pump.

well it start squeeling after like 3k because that huge fan is there that the belt has to spin, and without that fan being there it wont be so hard to spin that water pump and that pulley, but ill tighten it yes..

and you are saying i need to take off my S14 AC fan as well because it will be replaced with the 2 fans from the sentra... but how would the radiator fan turn on ? is it wired with the AC fan so the computer knows which fan should come on? wouldnt i have to reqire the radiaotr fan, and the AC fan , both or one or none?
