oil pressure too high?

I know this topic has been touched on before but I found the thread for too low. I think my car is running way too high! the oil pressure guage has two limits. the bottom line is the longer line at the bottom of the guage right? the top limit is the longer line up top, then there is all the small lines in between. well when I drive up to around 85 mph, my oil pressure guage goes to "two sticks before top limit" (sorry if I sound stupid, I dont know how else to phrase it) then if I drive at 100mph it goes to the very last short stick before the top limit (long stick) so I am affraid of driving any faster. my fastest was 120 mph and the guage marked between the top short stick and long stick. yet I see some of you go 130-140 mph! how high is pressure there? is my car running too high? and with no numbers to indicate or compare how do I know? oh and its a 94 base model (DOHC).

Yeah, alot of people who have the 91-96DOHC say they have an SL. but in reality back in those years there where only two models: the VR-4 and the Base model (DOHC) the SOHC was introduced in 97. This is why I sometimes will say mine is an SL. because SL in synonymous with DOHC. but our cars (including yours) dont have the SL badge in the back. So people will always come back to us and say "thats not an SL, thats a 94 base model" check out this site for refference: http://www.team3s.com/FAQ-Specs1.htm

Re: oil pressure too high?

Engines are the same(91-96 as he said), but some features were not synomious(sp?) between the SL and base(ecs being one I think).
Regarding oil pressure, I doubt it would be the same between a vr4 and an SL, otherwise I'd go take mine up to 100 right now just to check for you.

thanks Igovert! its the thought that counts. as for the SL vs. base? I am not an expert in anyway regarding the badging of the cars. but I dont think that there is a such thing as a 94 SL. I think the only reason people call them SL is becuase they figure the DOHC means its and SL. again I could be wrong! as for ECS on a non-turbo........did that even exist? Slade, does your cars say SL in the back?

Re: oil pressure too high?

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...highlight=base

this is a discussion we had before regarding the different options available to the SL that the base didn't have. Essentially leather 8-way adjustable seats, ECS, different rims, different audio components.

Also the link you posted above, if I remember correctly, differentiates the SL and base by years and sales. They are definantly the same engine but different cars inside. Just as the Dodge Stealth and the 3000gt are the same car setups with different styling. The Stealth r/t(non-turbo) and the ES are the same engine as the SL and 3k Base, but different options and styling.

Cool Slade, now I wish I had an SL! ECS, leather, and I'm guessing Digital AC controls right? I still love my 3000GT though.

Re: oil pressure too high?

whens the last time you got a oil change buy like jiffy lube or something? you need to check to see if you might have too much oil or not enough oil, cause that doesn't make any sense. you need to check that out asap

Racer6, my bad man, I had bad mushrooms when I was younger.

Youngvr4, I change my own oil. I use 4 quarts plus fill up on the oil filter. How high does your oil pressure mark at 85-90 mph?
