98 pathfinder, can't get alarm out of silent mode

I can't get my alarm out of silent mode. I've followed the instructions in the manual, no luck.

The Manual says to turn the ignition to the ON position, then turn it off. Then Press the alarm button three times within 10 seconds and I should hear chirps. I've tried it several times and dont get any chirps.. any suggestions???

I Can't get mine out of silent mode either. My manual has diffrent instructions

My manual for the 99 says hold the unlock/lock buttons on the remote for 3 seconds to change between modes

Me to I have a 98 and the same crap it says to hold the lock and unlock buttons on the remote for 2 seconds but it does not work!

Make sure all doors are closed while changing modes.
