Angry heater resistor

I have a 2001 granAm SE1 3.4L
my heater resistor has gone bad fan has
5 speeds, but only 3,4,5 works. Bought a new one from dealer for $23.00. New Resistor has been modified, replaced it now have one speed 5. Returned it for a replacement same problem. OEM resistor still works on 3 speeds. I am stumped.

Re: heater resistor

It is possible that you may need to buy a new fan motor and replace it too. Sometimes the fan going bad is what destroys the resistor. Check a local wrecking yard. I purchased one for $25 and it works perfectly. Put in a new resistor at the same time.

Re: heater resistor

The resistor is usually located under the dash close to the heater fan. I am not sure of the exact location on the Grand Am. Sorry!

heater resistor

the resistor is located on passenger side. under the glovebox remove the plastic cover and than you will see the wire loom running up to the firewall in front the blower. unplug and remove the 2 screws.

Remember you do not have to install the resistor to check it out, just plug it in on the floor and see if it's good.

Re: heater resistor

I just replaced mine. When I put the new redesigned resistor in, only fan speed 5 worked. I was very upset. What had happened is that I did not get the connector properly put back on. This might help
