I have a 98 windstar 3.8L V6. Last weekend we were driving on the expressway and going up a small hill, the engine started making a clanking sound and we lost acceleration and saw a puff of gray smoke. There was no fire and nothing that we could immediately see that was wrong. I have gotten some speculation from friends that it is a cracked head or heads. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and if anyone has actually rebuilt the engine.

Re: 98 windstar 3.8 v6 rebuild
Ford is required to cover the headgaskets on the 3.8L engines for 7 years/ 100,000 miles.
It's called a "silent recall". If it did actually "blow" the headgasket(s), you should be able to have it repaired at a dealership for $100 deductable plus "consumables" (oil, coolant etc). Do a "google" for windstar 3.8L and you should find reams of info on the procedure and specific coverages. |
