hello i have a 98 chevy lumina and i want to know why and how my ABS light came on and how do i fix the problem that could be the reason its on in the first place when i first got it the low traction light would kick on when i apply the brakes to hard or whent over a bump to fast and after a wile the ABS light turned its self on and has never gone away ive bled all the brake bleeders including the two that are by the brake refile unit and the light still has not gone away. is ther anything that could be triggering it and is it easy to fix.

Re: 3.1 98 lumina ABS light
First, try nothing and it most likely will go away. Mine did same thing after I replaced wheel bearing/sensor. It went away after a few trips (~20). Do the brakes still work? That is most important. Things such as dirt can cause sensor to give faults. Does it come on before you apply the brakes after starting car or is it on from the beginning?

the ABS light comes on automatticaly now and its been there for over 30,000 miles but the funny thing is that it dont effect the brakes anymore but if your in an emergancy they will lock-up. from the time i start the car the ABS light comes on and stays on and the low tracktion light has not appeared eithor for over 30,000 miles also. so even though the car runns fine and brakes fine its a thing i got where if theres a warning light on i want it gone kink of a deal.

Re: 3.1 98 lumina ABS light
See if Autozone can read ABS codes. Not sure.
Brakes will work like standard brakes with light on. Otherwise check all connectors/wheel speed sensors. |

Re: 3.1 98 lumina ABS light
your problem could located under hood drivers side.....wires can corrode losing connection...bad design by GM...fuse box is exposed to elements, check the connection at the "relay"..I had same problem...same goes for horn, dash lights for they also located there too.....its easy to check and not costly to fix.. hope this helps Don...

Re: 3.1 98 lumina ABS light
A freind's '92 Lumina did something similar, I brought it in the shop and lifted it, to make sure there wasn't debris or dirt on one of the wheel sensors. There wasn't. Then, just for laughs, I ran it in gear on the rack, which sends the ABS into high alert 'cause the front wheels are spinning and the rear aren't. Drove it around the lot once, the light went out, and the system has worked fine since. Go figure.
