OBD code reader

I saw this obd code reader for sale and am thinking of buying it. The price is right and if it works it sure could save a lot of money and time at the shop so they can tell me that something really stupid has made the check engine light turn on. Has anyone tried this unit?

For your 95, I'm pretty happy with my Actron CP9110. Look for them on ebay. I used to have to do multiple searches for Actron scan tool, actron scantool, cp9110, ect to get all of them some days.

You need the scan tool itself (CP9110), the GM cartridge (CP9111), and the GM OBD-II cable (CP9115). If you're lucky, you can get a scan tool with the gm cartridge for $50-$80. The cable is about $40 from actron direct. I actually got my scan tool with a chrysler catridge for really cheap and bought the gm one separate, but I had to wait a looong time to get the catrridge by itself.

I've heard several others mentioned that do the job, but they are waay more expensive professional setups like snap-on and such.

One down side is that the Actron only reads certain systems, codes and sensors. All it really means to me thus far is that I can't use it to tell me which wheel speed sensor(s) is/are making my traction control not work right.

Another option I stumbled across is that in the course of taking my car to 2 tranny shops to get a speed sensor problem diagnosed and fixed they both scanned my car for free. Just tell them it's shifting hard and the SES light came on at the same time

Re: OBD code reader

I just got the code reader. It worked as advertised. It gave me a code 410, which is a "secondary air injection system malfunction". If anyone knows why that means, I would love to hear it.
