Shift interlock on '98 Exped

I'm having to press down very hard 4 or 5 times on the brake pedal before I get the "click" that allows you to shift out of Park.

Has anyone had this problem? I'm thinking it's due to a bad break light switch. Does anyone know if this is the likely culprit, or if not, what do you think it is?

Thanks for any and all replies.

Replace brake switch yourself, very easy to do, before going to bent over at the dealership!

Check the wiring harness going into the brake light switch. They sometimes fray, causing a bad connection.
