Go-Kart Engine sound :(

Hi, I'm rather new to the engine world of cars, cause I'm more into the cosmetic, eye-kandi side of the automotive world. I mean don't get me wrong, I know some things about the engine, but not as much as I should know. As for my question... I have a 1998 Dodge Neon, and I love it. Since I've been into the show-car style I really havent worried about the engine much... But recently I have been stumbled w/ a problem that I don't like... When ever I rev up my engine... it sounds like a go-kart... It's an SOHC 2.0L, automatic (but investing to have it converted to a manual...). I was wondering, how can i get a different sound out of what I hear? Do I have to do something to the engine? or can I simply mask it out w/ a different muffler system? If it's as easily as the muffler, how can i determine the sound each makes so I can get the sound that I deisire?

Re: Go-Kart Engine sound :(

If there is a leak in the exhaust it is easily fixable as long as it is not near a weld or flange. There is muffler tape available at auto zone, cheap fix. You can cut out the bad part, and replace the pipe, again available at the zone. Another cheap fix. If you are just looking for a better sound look into a muffler or high flow cat, something of that nature. Good Luck!
